“I love you with all my heart but I have to leave before it turns into anything less than love.” This beautiful sentiment was expressed by a 17 year old Tamara as she left her home and life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This story has a number of twists and turns but ultimately ends in freedom and awakening.
The song that Tamara chose to represent her journey is Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog from The Muppet Movie.

I enjoyed your story so much and identified on so many levels. Being one of 8 leaving the house at a young age .JW mother still alive 85 .just fortunately only 2 baptized in family that are still in so she has been able to be in our lives . But as they can’t celebrate the holidays she has missed out so much.I wish all the best to you and your family and you are right until you learn the real truth you are waiting for Armageddon. Love Grannymabel.
Thank you so much for your understanding. I’m sorry you have had to go through so much of the same, but I’m glad you still have contact with your mother❤️. I’m always torn between wishing she was still here or being glad she passed before feeling the need to shun me…
I wish all the best to you and your family also. Hope you enjoy all the upcoming holidays with as much family as possible!
Beautiful story Tamara! I was so touched by your story of waking up and not living in fear anymore. Well said. I listened to the first part, then went to a shunned recovery project meeting tonight, and went back to finish after the call. Wow, I was not expecting such a twist of events.
You have a kind and inspiring way. Thank you for sharing!
I’m humbled that you found my story so touching. I really put off telling my story because I didn’t feel like I had it nearly as bad as most others.
I’m so excited to be awake now! No matter how mad I am at my dad and sister and nieces, their shunning me was the catalyst to my waking up , so I have to say “Thank You” to them! I always try to find the silver lining…
Thank you for listening to my story .
I hope to learn of your story someday 🤗❤️
I really enjoyed your story and i also live in upstate NY outside of Saratoga Springs
