Episode 115 – I Am Enough – Keagen is shunned by Jehovah’s Witnesses

Five year old boys should be walking around full of wonder about dinosaurs and big trucks, not full of shame. Imagine stumbling on things at such a young age that would kick off shame that would haunt your every thought and action for years. And all of this because you were in a cult like Jehovah’s Witnesses who shame human exploration and lack any understanding of how people truly work. Eventually Keagen would have to learn the lesson that he is enough, and he always was, it was the cult and the people in it that let him down.

The song that Keagen chose to represent his journey are The Light by Disturbed and Revival by Selena Gomez.

This podcast was made possible by my original podcast This JW Life. You can find it on any podcast app or on YouTube. It is a 9 part series about life as Jehovah’s Witnesses designed to help you understand how it worked in one comprehensive story and to help you process your own if you came from that environment.

  1. I wish you the best on your journey of finding yourself and your new life as an ex JW. Having been out for 20 years, I left when I was 26, I can only say each day becomes easier and your “new self” will begin to grow and flourish. I can’t say there aren’t times when the old “I’m not good enough” feeling doesn’t creep in, but it does get easier. I encourage you to get therapy to help you through it, and there are therapists out there for past cult members that can be extremely helpful. Leaving the organization was the best decision I made and without a doubt I don’t thing I would have been this happy if I would have stayed. Take it slow, be patient with yourself and others. You are a deserving beautiful human, nothing more and nothing less, that deserves all the happiness in the world!!!!

  2. I have never related to a story more than Keagan’s! Not just the experiences, his attitude and way of dealing with things. I had an almost identical experience with antidepressants…in fact with a lot of things he talked about.
Wishing Keagan all the best xx
