Episode Twenty Nine – Nico is shunned by Jehovah’s Witnesses

Today we have Nico’s story. Nico has actually already been on the podcast, at the end of episode 23 after Sherrie’s interview. He told the story of his first Christmas in the Facebook group and it was such an amazing story that I had him call in and record it and played it on the show.

Nico is one of the youngest guests that I’ve had. He was able to break free from the cult with so much life ahead of him, but the life that he left behind is still fresh and he lost a lot of people that he cared about in the process. In his story you’ll see what kind of person he his, how he tried to live that dub life, and also how things happened that led to him waking up. In fact, there’s a story at the end that involves another person, and I know that you like I will want an update on them. So I have an update for you to share after the interview.

The song that Nico chose to represent his journey is Second Chance by Shinedown.

  1. Nico, happy to hear that you got out relatively young. You have your whole life ahead of you. Also glad to hear that ‘Stacy’ is doing well and that you two are trying to forge a life ahead. She realized who really loves her and got out of that toxicity. Make sure she gets therapy.
Was she disfellowshipped or just left and does she have any relationship with her mom and family?

  2. she was disfellowshipped for apostasy. she had been reproved for what her and i did together as active JWs. on her “check up” judicial committee to get her “privileges” back she told them that she was seeing me again and no longer believed it was the truth. and they disfellowshipped her 3 weeks later. of course they didn’t want to hear her evidence!

as far as her mother is concerned, she actually doesn’t shun her. however she was very abusive in every aspect of the word to “stacy” growing up and now that she is out of her mothers house she wants no contact with her. (as a side note her mom was the reason stacy tried to commit suicide and her therapist refused to send her home if she went back to living with her) she does also have a younger sister and her sister does shun her.

  3. Wow. She can do better than trying to live with these conditional relationships. Let’s hope her sister wakes up soon. Keep looking forward and form relationships with people who will love you both unconditionally.

  4. Nico! Loved your interview. I could relate to so much you said growing up. If you and “Stacey” ever make your way down to Australia, give me a shout out! You’ve got a friend down here!

  5. Aloha Nico, your story was very uplifting. I’m so stoked because I’m in Hawaii!!! I never thought I’d ever hear of another exjw here. I’m so happy you and Stacy are together an building a good life.
I have been out of the Borg for 30+ yrs and have never met an exjw since I’ve been in Hawaii.
